Seven weeks ago, we commenced what’s anticipated to be our biggest transformation in over five years, and the dust isn’t the only thing that’s been flying! Our mantra from 2012 still rings true: "the middle makes no sense." From gutted walls to fully framed new rooms, it's clear that this renovation is a true leap of faith.
Unlocking Potential: Our Two Major Goals
Our renovation wasn't merely a spur-of-the-moment decision; it addressed two persistent issues that had festered over time:
- Enlarge our son’s cramped bedroom: Children grow quickly, and what once sufficed for a 6-year-old is less appropriate for a budding pre-teen bursting with crafting ideas.
- Enhance access to our backyard pool: A long-winded hallway severing the connection to our outdoor oasis felt like a lost opportunity.
In addition to these primary objectives, we decided to take advantage of the dust and chaos to add an ensuite bathroom, leveraging our contractor's insights about plumbing accessibility beneath our raised deck.
Reviving the Porch: Making the Most of Our Space
Our breakthrough moment came with the decision to transform our covered porch into a conditioned room. By doing so, we could create a larger bedroom for our daughter and open up her old room to create a more spacious communal area leading to the pool.
